Rocking out at Rhythm Riot Weekender in Rye

Rhythm Riot is one of the greatest Rock 'n' Roll Weekenders, dedicated to celebrating the music, style, dance and fashion from the 1940's and 50's. We headed down to this years Rhythm Riot festival in the beautiful town of Rye in East Sussex to join in the action. Here's our photo diary and highlights from the weekend...

Rhythm Riot- dancing

The Music: Bands travel from across the globe to play at Rhythm Riot. This year we loved watching the Haystack Hi-Tones, all the way from the Netherlands play their unique style of Rockabilly Swing with a touch of old-fashioned country. The legendary Teenagers topped Saturday night. Two of the Teenagers were from the original Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers line up, so needless to say these guys were Rock 'n' Roll veterans!

The Teenagers played out the night with their most famous hit 'Why Do Fools Fall in Love', what a dream come true. Sunday night's highlight was the incredible German band Ray Collins Hot Club playing a magical mix of Jump and Jive, Swing and Rock'n Roll in true 50's style. Despite not taking to the stage until 1am, the crowd and band managed a high-energy performance!, if you haven't heard them already, have a listen!

The Cars: At noon on Sunday we hopped on the vintage bus to take us to the historical town of Rye. To our surprise the bus lead the procession of classic cars, meaning we were at the front waving at the crowds that braved the rain to see the cars! We practiced our Royal wave and peered out the window at the cars.

After leading the procession down from the Holiday Camp, we finally made it into Rye to find the streets lined with locals and festival goers out to see the spectacular array of classic cars. The Atomic Girls were out posing for pictures to promote the latest festival dedicated to celebrating Mid-Century style.

The weather was grey and damp, but the crowds were in fine spirits. We braved the rain for a short while, but our overwhelming desire for a Sunday roast got the better of us!

Shopping: Christianne treated herself to a few new fabulous frocks from the darling Emma of Miss Bamboo. We spied our lovely friends Lil' Mo & The Dynaflo's CD amongst the hundreds of CD's and Vinyl on sale. Lil' Mo & The Dynaflo's will be playing some of the greatest Californian Doo-Wop at next years Rhythm Riot, excited already!

The Party: Far beyond anything else, Rhythm Riot is always a great excuse for a party and to meet some rather hilarious and lovely individuals. The people are what make Rhythm Riot so special. I was so happy to meet the gorgeous Anne Marie of ReproVintage clothing. We both sported our sparkle and furs for Saturday night! It's all about the BLING.

Rhythm Riot - vintage style

The dance floor is always wild at Rhythm Riot with some fierce movers (The thought that next year we will be on the dance floor and errr wearing sensible shoes makes me just slightly nervous, in fact very nervous indeed) We had so much fun catching up with our friends who flew in all the way from Los Angeles and just can't wait for next year!
