Our Edwardian Bedroom Makeover Reveal
Finally we can share a progress report on our Edwardian Bedroom. When we first viewed Lyndale House the front bedroom was the only room with the original floor boards uncovered. The walls were covered in textured wallpaper that had been painted over. The fireplace had been boarded up and the windows had no additional insulation, which became very obvious once we moved in and they were soaking wet with condensation every morning.
The very first jobs that we tackled in the front bedroom were having the electrics sorted, including moving the ceiling light and adding additional plug sockets. We also had panels of secondary glazing cut and installed it ourselves, to help reduce the condensation issues.

Tackling the bedroom fireplace
This picture shows what the chimney breast looked like when we moved in. There was a small plastic vent on the wall. There was a tiled hearth, the tiles appeared to be from the 1970s or 1980s. Safe to say that very little of the original Edwardian character remained. We decided to tackle the fireplace first.
Edwardian bedroom fireplace and quarry tiles
We found a cast iron Edwardian fireplace on eBay and had it shipped via a driver from the Shiply website (that has become our go-to for all big deliveries) The heat-resistant quarry tiles were purchased from 20th Century Fires in Stockport. We had help from Dan Macdonald Home Improvements for the instillation. It was very dusty, but Dan did a great job.

Stripping the textured wallpaper
Most of the walls at Lyndale House were covered in textured wallpaper, the front bedroom was no exception. Using our nifty textured wallpaper stripping technique (shown on our IG Reels) we set to work. Luckily the front bedroom ceiling wasn't wallpapered, unlike some of the other rooms. We set to work and began stripping.
Sanding the original floorboards
Unlike our last place, we decided to get help sanding the floors at Lyndale House. Thankfully Zach's friend Steve sands floorboards by trade and is the best in the business. So, we called in SPL Floor Sanding who made an excellent job of bringing our the colour and grain in the original wood.

Painting the walls in F&B Wimborne White
Ideally we would have liked to paint the walls and ceiling before sanding the floors, but as these things go, the timings just didn't work out. So we "sheeted up" and began filing all the small cracks and holes in the lime plaster walls. We chose Farrow & Ball Wimborne White paint for the walls and a contrast bright white gloss for the skirting boards and picture rails.

Edwardian Bedroom Reveal
After sleeping on a mattress for weeks and being covered in dust and paint, the front bedroom is finally looking fresh and bright.

Choosing antique furniture
We already had a few pieces for the bedroom. The much-loved chartreuse velvet chair shown in the pictures and the dressing table were inherited and add a welcome pop of colour and character.
The Edwardian double wardrobe is from Johnson Antiques Vintage & Retro
Edwardian apothecary drawers bedside tables
On a recent jaunt to Yorkshire we looked around an antiques shop in Settle and spied a pair of Edwardian apothecary drawers. We thought that these would go well with our new wardrobes and be useful for storing things. Without a tape measure to hand or knowing how big our bed was, we were fortunate enough that our friend Lucy was able to do a recon mission and pick up the drawers after our Yorkshire visit (thanks Lucy)

Modern Lighting
The ceiling light is the jolly budget-friendly Hartfield Light Pendant from Dunelm, it looks slightly retro in style and gives a warm light to the room in the evening. The bedside lamps are the Black Storm Lantern Glass Table Lamps from Ralph Lauren Home.
The bed was carried over from our previous place, it's a modern metal frame in the style of a traditional cast iron bed.
We still have a few things to do, like sort out the curtain pole and curtains, maybe add some choice artwork too. However, it's certainly great to have a fresh, bright and clean bedroom with full working plug sockets and hardly any condensation, surrounded by lovely antiques. We feel very hashtag blessed.
Thank you for following our progress.
