Watching a Silent Movie at The Art Deco Laurelhurst Theater, Portland

In between partying, vintage shopping and hunting down a beautiful vehicle for our U.S.A summer road trip we squeezed in a darling evening at The Laurelhurst Theater here in Portland. The Laurelhurst Theater opened its doors in 1923.

The theater boasts four screens showing the best of modern cinema, Independent, art and classic film to Portland's movie lovers. We watched The Artist and gorged on popcorn and cups of tea. The show only costs $4 and snacks are affordable unlike most modern-day commercial cinemas. From the outside The Laurelhurst Theater lit up in its art deco glory, is a sight to behold.

The Laurelhurst Theater became part of Portland's cultural and architectural history when it first opened in 1923, originally the theatre had a single screen and could seat 650 people and was one of the first art deco style theaters of the period. Now with four auditoriums all with modern amenities the theatre offers a quality viewing experience with vast leg room and tables in front of each seat so you can rest your drinks and popcorn very easily. The decor inside and out maintains its classic appeal. 

The foyer offers wine, pizza, salads, wraps, popcorn and candy. All of which may be brought into the auditoriums to enjoy at your table while you watch your movie. What could be better than a cup of tea and a great film or should that be 'movie'?

It's always a pleasure to visit an independent classic movie theatre venue, the staff at the Laurelhurst were super personable and the atmosphere was relaxed and informal combine that with an outstanding deco building and you've got yourself a real unique evening of pleasure.
